First, a disclaimer that I know the author personally.I have been looking for an easy-to-read book for my children to convey the story of the Mahabharata. This book (and the ones to follow soon, I hope) nicely fills that need. With a lot of background story and nice illustrations (including maps of ancient Indian kingdoms), this book stands out. Best read on a tablet for the colors in the illustration - text on a couple of pages is difficult to read on a Kindle due to the darker background in those pages - but the rest of the book comes across well even on the Kindle. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

I loved the minimalist style of drawing and use of color. Covers a lot of ground from the epic. This is a good refresher for those who are familiar epic. Look forward to books two and more; promising!
Book is perfect for kids or adults, who want to learn Mahabharata but don’t have time to read volumes of books.. also the maps and graphics make it very engaging.
Absolutely brilliant effort by Somdip. His earlier illustrated book, "Lilavati", introduced the young and not-so young reader to the wonders of arithmetic and geometry of Bhāskarācārya.
This is the first of a six-part series on the great Hindu epic, Mahabharata.
This is a fantastic introduction to the epic for children, since it has got engaging graphics, descriptive text, and a style that will make children want to ask more questions. And therefore excellent for parents too, since it will make the children pull the parents into explaining the epic to them.
I look forward to the next five parts.
Would have been nice to at least have some backstory or something included with the maps. I know it wasn't an expensive buy, but a couple maps don't exactly make me want to go buy another book (particularly if this is what I might expect to find).
That said... It wasn't expensive (free, in my case), the maps weren't terrible. I can't really recommend for or against buying it, as I haven't read the next book, and I assume this one would be a (possibly useful) companion to it.
Update oh, yeah, it's a book. app decided to start me at the back of the book for some reason. Will have to update my review again once I actually read it.
If you are broadly familiar with the story, this book outlines the key characters and background story.
The illustrations are nice and fresh.
The book touches upon a number of sub-plots, enough to weave it into the larger story. Don't expect details here. That isn't the intent of this book.
Overall, a refreshing crisp version of a great itihaasa.
